Grass-Seller Offers Grass to the Buddha

A grass-seller (yāvasika: rtswa ’tshong) named Svastika/Sotthiya (bKra-shis) offers Siddhārtha a bunch of kuśa grass. He uses this bunch of grass to make a seat under the Bodhi tree. It is on this seat that he attains Buddhahood. By the way, Svastika is said to be an emanation of Indra/Śakra. This is depicted in Borobudur Temple in Indonesia. © Anandajoti Bhikkhu (taken on: Taken on 11.7.2016).
